Mutter Gottes nah
Maria Saalen, an idyllic place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol.
The pilgrimage chapel "Unsere Liebe Frau von Loreto" was built in the mid-17th century and was once connected to a hermitage.
Over the entrance door is the date 1652, with to the right a modern painting of S. Virgo Lauretana. At the altar in the church, on the gable, is a depiction of the Annunciation, with the Black Madonna holding the Christ Child, the Saints Anne and Joachim, and over the doors the Saints Joseph and Sylvester.
The pilgrimage chapel belongs to our rustic history, which goes back several hundred years and is carefully maintained by our family. Even today, the Madonna is revered in Saalen. In autumn the annual pilgrimage procession to Maria Saalen takes place. On this occasion an altar is erected outdoors, where the Christian celebrations are completed to the accompaniment of the local band. In the guesthouse, meanwhile, the hosts wait in the cosy snug room for those partaking in the procession to arrive.
